Watford Community Housing’s Biodiversity Action Day!

Staff from Watford Community Housing have been out volunteering in their community again as part of their Biodiversity Action Day!

The volunteers were in Abbots Langley helping to plant hedges and promote biodiversity in the local area. This event was a follow up to their Biodiversity Action Day back in September where Watford Community Housing staff participated in a range of volunteering activities from gardening to making birdhouses!

In addition to the hedges they also finished off some communal areas by planting the remaining foliage in areas they couldn’t finish in September. The event was supported by Accuro, Watford Community Housing’s grounds maintenance contractor and by Hertfordshire County Council, who supplied over 10,000 trees to the project.

This Biodiversity Action Day comes a few weeks after Accuro completed works around Abbey View and Munden View to enhance the biodiversity around the two tower blocks. These works included the planting of two trees, the creation of new native wildflower areas, hedge lines being cut back to encourage new growth and the planting of 2,500 native bulbs to attract pollinators.
